The first crib we delivered was to the Orleans, Hotel and Casino. We were obviously still in the learning stage.

Right outside the registration area at the Orleans is a place to park. So far it has been the only casino property in Vegas like that.

This would be our first time to use the bell service to deliver the equipment to the rooms. After we parked, we flagged a bellman and told him where we needed the equipment taken. He informed us, at the Orleans, you have to be in the room and place the call to the bell and then they will bring your delivery up.

The client had already checked in. Their room was located in a tower that needed a floor key to go up in the elevator. We called the client met them at the elevator, and went up to their room. In the room we called for the bell, to bring up the bed. We were anxious, so to us it seemed like an eternity, but it was really only a few minutes.

While we waited we had the chance to get to know our client. They were visiting from California for a bowling championship. Their daughter was a very cute, active 18 month old.

As soon as the bed arrived, we started putting it together. Somewhere, maybe in transport, a piece on it had broken. It was still functional but we didn’t want to trust it with their daughter. Embarrassed, we showed the client what was wrong and explained that we wanted to replace it.

So we quickly tore it down and instead of waiting for a bell to return, we carried it from the room, down a never ending hallway, on to the elevator, through the casino and finally to the car. By then our arms were shaking. We took the broken bed back to office and picked up another one before heading back to the Orleans.

Instead of waiting for the bell, we decided to carry it ourselves. Through the Casino...elevator...never ending hallway...and finally to the room.

We assembled the new bed and presented it like it was our first born. We were nervous but the clients were very gracious and thanked us for procuring a new one for them. They later sent us a nice e-mail. We'll look forward to seeing them again.

The power of the web.

We are always excited when we serve clients from outside the states. Our visitors span the globe from such places as China, Hong Kong, England, Mexico and Australia. Our latest visitors come from Sydney Australia.

These latest visitors have stirred in us again the desire to visit "the land down under". Travelers are always willing to share their favorite local spots with us and our newest visitors are no exception. We once again have the travel brochures on our refrigerator to wet our appetites for our long awaited adventure.

As I stare at the brochures, it's exciting to imagine, every snorkler at the great barrier reef is me. I also am thrown back to the last itme we had Australia on the refrigerator. It was right before my birthday. I was turning ... well it was a big one. I had not been feeling up to par. Just extra tired. My Dr. had said "oh you are probably just low on iron, come on in".

As we left the office that day we had a new picture for our refrigerator - tough competition too- it was our first ultrasound picture of our precious little girl. So up went the ultrasound and down, a least temporarily, came all of Australia. So I say once again with a little trepidation- "let's put Australia on our refrigerator".
The Luxor
Our first experience with a delivery to a Hotel/Casino was "different". It was also our first order and our first international customer. We didn’t know what to do. At first, we were going to deliver it to the room that the guest was staying, but there is no way to get to the room before the guest gets there.

Every Hotel has a bell desk. We decided to give that a try. The client had ordered a travel system. That’s a stroller, infant car seat and the base that the car seat fits in.

The Luxor. A beautiful building on the outside, yet even more stunning on the inside. The outside looks nowhere as big as the inside. This delivery was the second time I had been to the Luxor.

Because it was the first time delivering to a Casino, we didn’t have the procedure that we have now. We parked in the garage, at the back end (west side) of the pyramid. You walk along a long bridge from the garage, overlooking the beautiful pools, to come into the casino. The building explodes open as you walk into it. As human, our intuitive nature wants to explore the building. I had to overcome my basic instincts to get back on task

As I walk through the casino, dodging people, slot machines, and the occasional cocktail waitress, the stroller gets a little heavy. I’m carrying it, instead of pushing it. I don’t want to put it down, because I can feel the floor security staring at me.

I finally make it to the bell desk. It’s a Friday afternoon, one of the busiest days of the week in Vegas. I had to wait a few minutes before I was helped. I explained to the Bell what I was doing and what I wanted. As I explained, I handed him a $5 bill. After that there were no questions. I gave him the name of the guest, and he put a note in the computer for them to pickup the baby equipment when they checked in.

After that I could explore the Luxor all I wanted. But there was a hitch. Later that afternoon, the client called and informed us that we had not left the base for the car seat. So I had to run back down to the Luxor to deliver the base.

We normally don’t get to meet the client, but this time I meet them by the registration desk. They were from England, Suffux, if I remember. They were a very nice couple. They asked a few suggestions of were to go and what to see. Their son was a cute little bloke. During our conversation, I caught myself trying to speak their accent, much to my embarrassment. We concluded our conversation, and I went back top the office.

Five days later I went back to the Luxor to pick up the equipment from the bell desk. What business could be easier?
